Day 9 Weissenburg to Regensburg - 73 Miles

A few stiff climbs, particularly a sharp initial ascent out of Weissenburg.
We departed knowing we had a longer day plus hills...
...but by this time we were veterans of the road.
Two Bavarian Hunds, often mistaken for Alpacas. Here we see the white and brown varieties.

After the purported 18% climb, we had fine views of the valley below...

...and once up on the plain, numerous wind turbines.
The stork had delivered.

Fields alternated with corn, asparagus left to "fern out'', hops, brassicas but few vines.

Here is a stubble field from presumed wheat (please correct me if I'm wrong!).

This stone is the geographical middle point of Bavaria.

Many tree-lined forest paths and roads.
"Robert (red gilet), please just move over to the middle for the photoshot please!"
This appeared like a huge maypole, festooned with coats of arms.
Lunchtime...

...facing the main square.

...as we settled to homemade spaetzle and a variety of other mains.
As ever, humungous buildings stood-out on rocky outcrops.
Who would live in these buildings now?

Our path was blocked, forcing us to carry/wheel bikes over pasture to avoid this yellow-suited man with a noisy tool which spat rocks.

Our first site of the Danube included the Hall of Liberation or Befreiungshalle, at Kelheim.

It was commissioned by King Ludwig I of Bavaria to commemorate the victory over Napoleon in the 'Befreiungskriege' of 1813–1815.

Along the way we passed through innumerable conurbations, light and heavy industry, river life and wonderful periods cycling along the Danube.

This strange item looks like a prototype for "The Wrong Trousers".

This blue/purple wild flower, common chicory, had accompanied our journey for several days.

A couple with bikes and boat leisurely work their way south.

A giant, 'amiable' lion overseas the cycle path...

...but disaster strikes.
A massive team of engineers are called in.

We arrive at Regensburg to a very fine hotel, Münchner Hof

This city is the forth largest in Bavaria and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
