Day 12 Inzell to Wallsee - 63 Miles
Inzell was fab. A quiet place right on the Donau (Danube). Interesting to watch the boats go by, both by day and evening.
The owners of the guest house were lovely. Homemade, hearty Austrian meals, a fine strudel, schnapps and some Austrian drinking songs.
Kathy's tire exploded first thing, just as we were about to leave.
"No pressure", said Connie.
A stunning ride in the early morning along the Danube.
We cycled towards Linz, Austria's third largest city.
A dramatic backdrop of forested slopes.
Only a few houses...
...until we reached our first brew stop at 14 miles.
Fresh fruit has been a real treat. The 2019 EUROW International Masters Regatta took place in July.
The Kiwis get everywhere!
I'm planning a New Zealand end-to-end bike ride next February on my 'expedition' bike, so it was nice to see the NZ flag.
Much of the regatta was being dismantled as we cycled through.Pizza lunch close to Linz.
Some fine freshly prepared pizza.
Pizza is so popular here that they even have a stone monument in celebration.
This cloaked figure looked out at the Danube. On closer inspection I realised that...
...he had no face!!!A Danube dementor.
More industry as we head towards Wallsee.
A local newspaper featured our PM on the front page.
"PM Boris Johnson suggests 15th October for..."
The blue common chicory gave way to this fairly ubiquitous 'Canada Goldenrod'...,
...sadly, another invasive plant.
Danube traffic gave way to more commercial boats.
We had a final afternoon brew stop at Enns. The Celts were here in 400BC, then Romans...Our course route took us to a closed gate with an intercom. A disembodied voice made it clear that we weren't to enter.
So we circled around and made good speed to Wallsee.
One of many mirrors placed to facilitate road safety, often at bends. Here, we had arrived!
