Day 14 map

It was drizzly and grey. Our last day and our first wet day of the trip.

Houses, roads, fields, sky all merged into one.
House Martins swooped over our heads at a brief briefing.

 Mesmerising
Multiple nests lined the overhanging arches of the upper windows.

Weissenkirchen was a lovely village. Again, fine outdoor paintings on the walls of homes.
A gentleman bowed us farewell as we cycled off into the bleak, drizzly, grey gloom

We cycled through little towns and villages including Dürnstein (overwhelmed by tourists!) and continued through the Wachau valley

This valley was full of vineyards after a long period of fields of corn, corn, corn, squash, corn, beans, brassicas and corn.
The Kunst Halle in Krems was startling against a backdrop of mostly 18th century buildings. A matter of taste I guess, but I really like it.
Reminded me a bit of Frank Gehry
It was built by 'Marte Marte Architekten'
A nearby sign - not sure where the 3.5 million Euros came from to build it.
 Wirtschaftstreuhandgruppe!

It's amazing how the German language groups words together to make a really long word.

See YouTube video comparing the sounds of words in French, English, Italian, Spanish and German.

We continued to criss-cross the Danube.

The day, although grey, had its own charm.

Our final stop, 6 miles short of Wien (Vienna).

Mucky spray despite a mountain bike-style mudguard.
We stopped at the Viennese equivalent of a greasy spoon.
Karin had just purchased a very fine expresso machine which made very fine coffee (ok, not a typical UK greasy spoon).
Final hot drinks and a gathering together of the group...

 ...and a cycle into Vienna!
 Lions adorned this bridge.
 Supper graffiti
...and the final mile and arrival to a wet, wet photo and prosseco!

 Strange leggings for wet weather!
...and the hotel at last!
